51. Part 3: Text Reading
Sandra had a very good day yesterday. She woke up at a quarter past eight. When she opened her eyes, she saw a bunch of flowers on the bedside table. They were from Jack, her husband. He got up very early and left for work. She walked to the bathroom - there were roses everywhere. She found a note on the mirror from Jack with "I love you, darling". She had a relaxing bath - the bath was full of rose petals. She put on her bathrobe and came to the kitchen. There was breakfast on the table. Everything was ready: fruit juice, nuts, cereals, boiled eggs and chocolates. There were some fresh rolls from the baker's too.
She was just finishing her breakfast when she heard a knock on the door. It was the postman. He smiled at Sandra and gave her a letter. It was a letter from Penguin. They wrote that her novel was very good and they were going to publish it. They suggested £60,000 for the book. When Sandra read it, she was very happy. She decided to phone her husband and tell him about it. He congratulated her on her achievement and told her that there was something important in the drawer of the bedside table. When she finished the conversation, she ran to her bedroom and opened the drawer. She saw a big envelope there. It was very heavy. Inside there was a lot of money. She counted it. It was £5,000. There was a note in the drawer - "It's for you, darling. It's for your dresses". What a surprise! She had to go shopping. Immediately. "I must go out now. First, I have to get dressed. Where are my clothes?" she asked. When she opened her wardrobe, all her clothes were on the shelf. Everything was ironed. But who ironed it? Was it Jack? She got dressed and went out. The weather was wonderful. It was warm and sunny. Her neighbour said "Good morning, Mrs Brown" and smiled at her. It was ten o'clock. The shops opened at ten so she had to hurry. She took a taxi and went to the shopping centre.
